Real Reading

Privacy Policy

Real Reading is built to be useful without being intrusive. We do not collect, store, or share your personal data.

Last updated: May 14, 2026.

The short version

We don’t want your data. The words you save, the pages you read, and the photos you take stay on your device. Our server reads the photo you send only long enough to transcribe the words on it, and then forgets it.

What we do not do

We do not collect personal data.

We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts, location, or any other personal information in order to use the app.

We do not store your reading data.

Your word library, your reading history, your review progress, and your high scores live in a local database on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers.

We do not save your page photos.

When you photograph a book page, the image is sent to our server, processed in memory to extract the words on the page, and discarded as soon as the response is returned. No photo is written to disk and none is retained.

We do not share your data.

We do not sell, rent, or share user data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties. There is nothing to share.

We do not train models on your data.

The page photos you upload are not used to train machine-learning models, ours or anyone else’s.

We do not use analytics or tracking.

There are no third-party analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or fingerprinting tools inside the app or on this site.

What happens when you take a photo

When you photograph a page, the app uploads the image to our server over an encrypted connection. The server passes the image to a vision language model that returns a list of the words on the page and their definitions. As soon as that response is sent back to your device, the image is dropped from memory. No copy is written to disk, and no log entry retains the image.

The dictionary of word definitions that powers the app is shared across all users. The dictionary contains no personal information.

Data that stays on your device

Your word library, including which words you have saved, your review history, your spaced-repetition state, and your game high scores, is stored only in a local database on your device. If you delete the app, that data is deleted with it. If you reset your device, that data is gone.

Because we never receive this data, we have no copy of it and no way to restore it for you. We think that trade is worth it.

Children

Real Reading is suitable for general audiences. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Any change that would expand what we collect will be announced in the app before it takes effect.
